Jackie Peterson

On Friday, June 30, Half Sister Studio is thrilled to host the remarkable Jackie Peterson for Cake. Jackie has requested coconut cake to be shared with ten guests, perfectly aligning with our studio summer vibes. If the weather’s right, we’ll take it to the garden.

As an esteemed independent museum consultant specializing in exhibits and writing, Jackie’s national recognition speaks volumes. With a steadfast dedication to uncovering meaningful stories and advancing equity in the museum field, her presence promises an enlightening and unforgettable perspective.

Jackie Peterson (who welcomes any respectful pronouns) is led by a curiosity about the unknown parts of the human experience, including her own. She came to museums through a desire to work in a field that aspires to fill in those gaps in our collective understanding through public-facing informal learning and creative expression.

Currently, Jackie is an independent museum consultant specializing in exhibit development, curation, and writing for history museums, historic sites, and other cultural institutions. With over ten years of exhibits experience, she has worked nationally with museums, communities, and stakeholders to uncover and illuminate meaningful stories and create authentic, truthful, and enlightening exhibitions.

Jackie leverages the power of language and narrative to create interpretive experiences that attest to the nuances of our human experience, spark conversation, and bring people together.

Jackie is passionate about equity in the museum field and grounds her work in the framework of diversity, access, equity, and inclusion (DEAI). She serves on the steering committee for Museums & Race, an initiative that seeks equity and justice for people of color in the museum field. She is also a member of the Empathetic Museum, a metric for institutional transformation for the cultural sector.

Half Sister Cake is an opportunity for storytellers of all types to share their experience in an unassuming, comfortable setting. From the worlds of design, film, art, content creation, and technology, we invite those who inspire us to shed light on the role of story in their craft and the effects it has on their practice (and their person). Each guest is tasked with choosing their favorite cake, whether sweet or savory, to be shared amongst the attendees.

Cake is served for about 90 minutes, with thirty minutes reserved for facilitated dialogue, thirty minutes for questions, discussion and indulging in cake, and a final half hour for our guests to share their work or engage in collaborative efforts if they so choose. If the weather is fine, we’ll throw the studio doors open to the garden; if not, we’ll cozy in by the woodstove.
